Appia today announced some outstanding results (see infographic below) including 1500% growth in the last year as users hit 16MM (up from 1MM a year ago). They operate in over 200 countries and have had more than 400MM app downloads to-date across all the major mobile operating systems. Their top app downloads last month alone included Facebook (#1), StreetWars, Mario55 and YouTube Mobile.
Appia drives organic, non-incentived user acquisition for leading app developers through their more than 50 mobile operator storefronts that reach over 500MM mobile subscribers. They power app stores for the 2nd and 3rd largest mobile operators in the world (Vodafone and AmericaMovil) and outside of the United States their top markets are India, UK, South Korea and South Africa.
The reason they have been so successful is that they understand how mobile is evolving differently around the world and they have built a unique business model that helps app developers gain proven distribution while enabling mobile operators to be relevant in the app economy.
Appia is enabling the app economy in developing markets like India, Egypt and Latin America. As users transition from feature phones to smartphones in these markets, Appia is determined to be the major delivery channel for apps. It is vital that entrepreneurs in North America understand the nuances of foreign markets in order to operate successfully on a global scale. Don’t assume that the prevailing model in North America will necessarily play out the same way in other regions.
